Acrylic Elastomer PA4510

 

BASIS INFORMATION


 

Polyacrylic elastomers, also known as Polyacrylic Rubber or ACM rubbers, are synthetic elastomers that consist of acrylic monomers. These polymers are typically produced through emulsion or suspension polymerisation methods and are made up of main repeat units, including ethyl and butyl acrylate or a combination of both. Other monomers can also be added to achieve a wide range of thermophysical and mechanical properties, with the inclusion of 5% 2-chloroethyl vinyl ether being common.

 

Due to their saturated backbone and polar side groups, these polymers display excellent resistance to heat, oxidation, and hydraulic oils. They also exhibit superior resistance to nitrile rubber in terms of weathering and ozone resistance, but their water and moisture resistance is typically poor, as is their resistance to acids and alkalis. Low temperature applications are usually restricted to around -10°C due to low cold temperature flexibility and compression set.

 

Several copolymer modifications have been developed to enhance the properties of ACM’s. These modifications include the addition of other backbone monomers and the introduction of reactive site groups (1-5%) for subsequent crosslinking.
